I’ve always had medium to severe back pain and discomfort in my neck, shoulders and knees.  In May 2014, I did something as simple as standing up from my work desk and collapsed from excruciating back pain.  I was hospitalized for 48 hours and bed ridden for 5 days.  I was unable to sneeze without pain let alone move around on my own.  Doctors told me only physiotherapy would help.  They were wrong.  After 3 months of Physio, I was able to move, but the discomfort was still there.  I decided to go see Dr. Mary Ann Dick, a naturopath, and she referred me to Dr. Diocee. I was unable to do the things I enjoyed doing, like working out or playing with my nephew.  It was a constant battle for me to relax because I could never get comfortable.  I was scared to move too much or too little in fear that my back would give out.  Something as simple as doing laundry and loading the dishwasher was painful. After dedicating time each week to Dr. Diocee’s schedule and recommendations, I slowly started noticing the little things.  The first thing I noticed was loading the dishwasher - pain free!  I didn’t realize how bad things were until I was able to move again. Back pain crippled my life for as long as I can remember and it’s not as if my life changed overnight.  It took time, dedication and Dr. Diocee to get where I am.  I never knew life without back pain so I didn’t realize how much I missed out on the last few years of having these issues. I am 25 and very outgoing so it’s amazing to be able to partake in the simple things in life again.  Fixing my back had a ripple effect on my life and I now enjoy going to the gym everyday which in retrospect has given me more energy and in general, made me a happier person knowing I’m not limited to the things I can enjoy.  It’s a good start to a healthy life and a great way to maintain it and I’ll forever be a patient. Dr. Diocee is always very welcoming and kind.  It’s the personal touches of remembering my name and events in my life that make all the difference.  His staff is amazing as well.  I look forward to seeing the girls up front because they too, are always considerate, welcoming and kind.  I believe in customer service and trust which is few and far to find in this day and age, but Lockport Chiropractic Centre has honestly exceeded all expectations.  Thank you for giving my freedom back.

One patient's story... At another clinic, about six years ago, I had received a diagnosis from a doctor too anxious to call it a day and go home, of “early OA” in my hips, which I saw scribbled on my “chart”, to be taken back to his administrative assistant and book some “physio” appointments. Sure!... Been there, done that!...to have some “caring” physio-person come in, do a two minute assessment, hook me up to a “TENS” muscle contracting machine and pop back 15 minutes later to move me to a traction table for the remaining 15 minutes while s/he rotated amongst the other curtained-off “stalls”...and “Make an appointment for next week”. (Right!)  I found out “OA” is osteoarthritis. The video Not knowing anything about chiropractic procedures, I was pleasantly surprised to be invited to watch a video describing the aspects of Gonstead chiropractic procedures which Dr. Diocee uses in his practice.  Dr. Diocee’s waiting room sometimes has video clips playing on a wall monitor, describing many interesting aspects of chiropractic health and wellness-related things of interest to us all.  Interesting stuff! The smile, the handshake When was the last time you were greeted by a doctor with a smile, letting you know they are truly happy to see and work with you in finding how they can help you?!...How about a hand-shake?!... Huh?!  Not me.  It’s never happened.  And I’ve been seeing doctors for a long time!  I get both of these, a smile and a handshake every time I see Dr  Diocee!  You are not going to believe this...When I got home later that night after my  first treatment, my wife had received a call from...Dr. Diocee!...asking how I was feeling after my first treatment! First things first...x-rays! I don’t know about you, but I like it when a doctor is not too lazy or all-knowing, to take the time and make the effort to find out exactly what s/he is working with/on, before they start  to treat you! For Dr. Diocee, one of those investigations meant two “full-body” x-rays (front and side).  And do you know what?  These x-ray(s) come out every time you see him, before he starts his treatment.  (Mine now, is all marked up with marker-pen notes and arrows, etc.—notations which keep him in touch with my needs, every step of the way.)  Did I mention how much I like the  “no-guess work” aspect of his practice? Reality and the positive approach I’ve always found Dr. Diocee to have a reality-based positive approach, which helps me in two ways:  He tells it like it is (good or bad); he is very forthcoming.  It’s always better/liberating, knowing the truth!  His positive attitude and compassionate approach make for a powerful healing intervention.  Knowing you are in the “hands” of a caring doctor gives you a head start on your road to recovery.  You have finally found someone who is not going to give up or lose interest in you. Guess work —"Nervoscope"! Yes!  The "nervoscope" is a very sensitive instrument/gauge which allows him to assess conditions long your entire spinal column.  It lets him pen-mark points of interest along your spine facilitating and guiding his adjustments/treatments for you.  Once again, caring enough to take the time to “do it right”! No guess work! Treatment explanations Never hesitate to ask Dr. Diocee about any concerns you  may have about your treatments.  He is the most personable doctor I have ever met.  There are reason(s) for all the adjustments/recommendations he will give you.  Don’t be afraid.  Ask.  Communicate.  Provide him with your feedback to enable him to make suggestions for your continuing health care and to let him know how the treatments are working...from your perspective.  He truly wants you “back” doing the things in your life that are important to you.  Hang in there.  This just keeps getting better!... The first treatment session The genuine, welcoming smile.  A warm handshake.  “How are you, today?”  After a review of my medical history questionnaire and a few questions, I was then asked to sit on a seat with my back to him so that he could slide the nervoscope from the top of my spine to the bottom of my spine and pen-mark the spots of interest to him.  Every step of the way, the procedures were clearly explained to me and I was repeatedly asked if I was in any discomfort from his manipulations/adjustments, which for the most part were very gentle and precise, with no “inflicted” pain. Patient or “Person”? Most definitely—“person”!  It’s not “Good morning, Mr. (         )”, rather, it’s “Hi (Jim), I’m Dr. Diocee”  You know you’ve come to the right place!  One of the first things I noticed, is that Dr. Diocee is one of those rare doctors who really sees the “person” in his patient!  This is huge!  It makes such a difference!  Compassion counts!  You are made to feel truly important to him and his administrative assistants (about whom I could write another entire booklet of praise!) Orthotics...or not? Computer-analyzed “walking” foot pressure drawings made by walking across his multi-sensored foot analysis pad, to generate a computer file which he can send to the west coast to have custom orthotics  (shoe inserts) made—just for you and your feet/footwear.  Precision orthotics!  I had two pairs made—one for my regular footwear and one for my gym shoes.  I’ll be ordering another pair for my house slippers!  They make a world of difference and should be worn all the time. Rotated hips Dr. Diocee quickly picked up on this problem of mine too and has worked wonders, gradually bringing them back into alignment through chiropractic manipulation! Unequal leg lengths—corrected During my first treatment session, Dr. Diocee noticed that my leg lengths were one & one-half inches different!  Further analysis indicated this was a functional leg length difference as      opposed to a structural leg length difference.  He placed a small spring-loaded thumping device up against (don’t try this at home folks!) the side of my neck and triggered it.  With a tiny poking sensation—my leg lengths instantly became “equal”!  When I left his treatment room, it felt like I was walking on a tiny stilt for the first few steps!  Amazing!  Subsequent checks revealed less and less discrepancy!  And sometimes, no leg length difference at all.  I was relating to Dr. Diocee, how at a “town” garage sale when I went to get out of a cheap plastic chair, it’s arm snapped and gave me a jolt!  I told him that when I walked to the house to get another chair, my arms were just jangling (shaking) at my sides.  (Thinking that perhaps a recent adjustment was the culprit.) Wham!  I’ve never been “cuffed” so fast in my life—I could hear Dr. Diocee pumping up the blood pressure cuff on my arm, while at the same time pinning a stethoscope to my chest to listen to my heart!  “I notice from your history chart you are on heart medication (blood pressure and cholesterol); Is there anything else wrong with your heart?”  “Well, I have an irregular heart beat”...Dr. Diocee: “Oh, you know that”?...“Yes, I’ve been seeing a cardiologist for years now and I have an occasional “extra” beat.”  Dr. Diocee: “You also have scoliosis (curvature) in your upper spine at the T3 joint and I think that may be contributing to your irregular heart beat.  Let’s start working on that... but first let me percuss (strike) you behind your left shoulder.”  He did.  And listened to my heart again...for the longest half minute I can remember; then he pulled the stethoscope from his ears and plugged it into mine..booomp, booomp, booomp...a perfectly regular heart beat!  I asked him if he was trying to make me cry, I was so excited!  To make a beautiful story short,  my heart beat is now regular on many visits, my blood pressure has gone down from 165/85 to 135/70, I no longer have occasional bouts of “minor” sleep apnea at night where you stop breathing for a few seconds and I can now sleep for eight or 10 hours without waking up! Pain free! I can’t tell  you how I feel today, to be pain free! I used to have excruciating hip and leg pain that I struggled to live with in order to do some of the things I wanted to do.  I’m  not out of the woods yet, but I now certainly have the help in place to make my life pain-free and enjoyable!  Somehow, “Thank you, Dr. Diocee!” just doesn’t seem enough! You are in good hands! Dr. Diocee is a truly gifted chiropractor.  His knowledge, skills and knowing touch, developed over thousands of treatment sessions are truly extraordinary gifts.  Gifts that he shares with us each time he treats us.  What  he is able to “see” through his touch is...miraculous! It’s your life—live it! I am ever so grateful for the suggestion made by a brilliant massage therapist I am being treated  by, for having “seen” my need and suggesting I make an appointment to see Dr. Diocee!  That was one of the best decisions I have ever made!  Do we really need to suffer?  Someone had to tell me about Dr. Diocee.  This is my way of  “paying it forward”.
